Is it wrong to have a bad past?Eston Swaby
Question: Is it wrong to have a bad past?
This is a question that was asked on Quora.com
Here is my answer (slighted edited)
No it is not bad to have a bad past, all of us have had negative experiences in our lives. You grew up without a father or a mother, or maybe both parents. You made a lot of mistakes in your past. Whatever it is, all of us have had bad experiences in our past, but the problem is when we keep focusing on those experiences or allowing those experiences to affect our lives and stop us from living a truly fulfilling life in the future.
Too many of us hold unto the stories of our past at the expense of our destiny and that cripple or stops us from being successful. Instead of letting your past define you, use your past to be better, to grow, learn from your experiences, but never let them define or stop you, never hold unto the stories of your past. When you hold unto the stories of your past you do so at the expense of your destiny. Your destiny or your future and your present wellbeing and happiness is too important for you to allow what happened in the past to cripple or destroy what could be………
For example, I used my past experiences of rejection, relationship issues, etc and turned it into a book, An Empowered Life and a business as a Coach and Speaker. Learn from your past and use it to move you forward, never let it hold you back.
Your story can inspire someone else, just like I am using my story to inspire others to go after their dreams, pursue their purpose and become best version of themselves.
As one of my friend on Facebook said “I see everything as a growth moment. Nothing really knocks you down unless you let it. You just learn and do better.”
Remember its not about what happened to you, it is how you use it
