Different Type of Websites and There Purpose

Not all websites are created equal and not all websites serves the same purpose. The purpose or intent of your website will be base on your intended audience and the journey you want to take them through. Do you want them to listen and buy your music? Do you want to introduce them to your products and services?  Some websites are geared towards selling products and other websites are geared towards providing practical information, while others are merely for entertainment. Your intention will determine what your website looks and feels like.

Let’s take a look at some of the different types of websites that are out there so you can get an idea of what you want to do with your own website.

Information Focus Websites

The purpose of an information focus website is to do just that, to convey specific, helpful information to a specific user/audience so that the reader learns something new or understands a topic better. For example Wikepedia, .searchenginejournal.com. These websites will give you “how to’s”, tips and tricks, fix and repair, guidance, support information, directions, instructions, etc.

Entertainment Websites

Entertainment websites purpose is to entertain, to give visitors entertaining information. Examples of entertainment websites are like online magazines, gossip oriented websites, celebrity news, sports coverage, movies, the arts, humorous websites, etc. The websites are frequently updated in order to keep users coming back for more information. Some of these websites have engaging contents, such as videos, podcasts, slideshows, etc.

 E-Commerce Websites

If you want to make money online selling products (your own or other people products as a dropshipper), an e-commerce is your best option. The purpose of e-commerce websites are to sell products to users. If you are going to be successful selling with an e-commerce website, you have to ensure that it is very easy for visitors to make a purchase and your site is very secure. Not only that, but your website should be very fast and attractive, up selling users on related products, incentivizing buyers, reducing cart abandonment, nurturing past buyers to buy again, remarketing to past visitors who haven’t yet purchased, using the proper payment options, having a mobile ready design, etc., etc.

Service-Based Business Websites

The main purpose of a service-based business website is to convince website visitors to buy their products or services, e.g to buy a coaching program, website design, branding services, credit card processing etc. This is done by positioning the company as a dependable, trust worthy and experienced service provider in the target market.

Before visitors make a purchase, they will want to know that you can deliver on what you said you offer, and that what they will receive gives them value. This can be done through testimonials on your website, articles, videos demonstrating your product, visual portfolio of your work and so on.

Blogs

Blogs are about giving visitors or readers valuable information about  a product or a particular niche, for example Social Media marketing, or WordPress. To do this, owners of these blogs will regularly update their blogs with articles that visitors are looking for.

It is very easy to start a blog as you can use free services, such as wordpress.com. If you search the internet you can literally find thousands of personal and professional blogs out there, some of them are general, meaning they talk about just about anything, while some of specific in nature, for example, Affiliate marketing, or how to make money through e-commerce.

Social Media Websites

I am sure you have visited, heard about, or a member of atleast one Social Media platform, e.g. the most popular ones are: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The purpose of social media websites is so that people can share and connect with each other whether it is withfriends, family, co-workers, acquaintances and even strangers. Most people use these websites to connect and share photos, videos and information with those they are connected with, while a lot of people use it for marketing purposes. For example, businesses use social networks to build direct connections with their customers which allows them to get feedback on their products and services and allows them to learn more about what their customers really need and want, and also to sell to them.
